Folks, it's Kenpo day today!!!! Yesterday was Core Synergistics and it was NO joke! I'm not sure why they call this rest and recovery week because you don't won't be getting any extra rest. ;-) I guess it's because there's no heavy lifting going on. It's not to be taken lightly or you will be getting a wake-up call. There's also something about being in a routine. I am a very routine-oriented person but the P90X is not really routine-oriented. The goal here is to confuse the muscle and mix things up. It keeps the body guessing what's next and that's what helps you obtain the hot, lean body that you want.
So tonight I'll be doing Kenpo. It's probably one of the easiest routines but definitely not a slacker routine. It gets the blood flowing and heart pumping. I'm excited that on Saturday I will be at the end of Phase I. I'm really proud of myself for plowing through the first month!! I'm seeing some very noticable results and can't wait to post 30 day pictures.
The diet is also going well. I am loading up on the protein, holding back some on the carbs and fat grams. I decided to take a new approach to eating starting today. I'm now eating every hour to hour and 15 minutes. I figure this will have my metabolism rockin' and rollin'. I feel great today, have tons of energy and have gotten lots accomplished at work.
When I get home this evening, I'll "push play" and do my workout. Then I'll aim for 8 hours of sleep tonight. ;-)
Until tomorrow...

Day 23...WAHOOOO
HELLO Day 23!!! I have made it to the last week of Phase I..rest and recovery, so they call it. ;-) Yesterday I did Yoga X, today I will be doing Core Synergistics and tomorrow Kenpo. Not really a lot of resting going on but the good news is, no pull-ups this week. Yeah!!
I'm feeling great as far as working out goes. I'm trying to really keep my focus this week on drinking tons of water, eating a lot of protein and low fat grams.
I have all but cut coffee out of my daily routine. I haven't had a cup since last Thursday. I went from putting flavored creamer in, to drinking it black and now I'm going without it all together. It's almost like my body said "Well, if I can't have all of the good stuff in the coffee, why have it at all?" So here we are!
I'm very excited to be in the last week of Phase 1. I can't wait to move on to Phase II but in the meantime I'm going to enjoy all of the core work, yoga and stretching that I get to do this week! Stretch X ROCKS!!

DAY 19
I'm back!! I've been out of town on a ski trip for the last week and just returned to work today. I fought off all of the distractions while I was gone and stayed on track. I have made it to Day 19 and haven't missed a day yet!! I'm really proud of myself...not surprised though. When I make up my mind to do something, I do it!
I can already see a significant difference and changes in just the almost 3 weeks that I've been doing P90X. I feel great...have tons of energy and usually stay a little sore every day (which I think is a GREAT thing). Next week is rest week for me. Yeh, well that doesn't mean that I get to lie down on the couch every night or sleep late every morning. What that means is that I'll be doing Yoga X a few times, Stretch X a few times and Core Synerginics. I'm looking forward to next week. I'm not a huge yoga person but the more I do it the better I get and that makes me like it more. ;-)) I'm really looking forward to taking my 30 day pictures!!!!! Just 11more days! I can't wait to see the difference.
Stay tuned for another update tomorrow! Tonight I'll be doing Legs & Back and Ab Ripper X!!!!!!!!

Day 11
My workout last night was great!! I was so exhausted afterwards that I got in bed around 9 pm. I slept great. My body was exhausted and I knew I would have to get some extra rest to keep the momentum going. Tonight is Yoga X which lasts for 1 1/2 hours. The first 45 minutes are tough...then it gets much easier.
SO let's talk nutrition for a minute. P90X has a detailed nutrition plan. Basically it's calorie counting. So since I have been doing Weight Watchers, I am going to stay on that track. I started in September 2011 and managed to stay on it through the holidays. Sure I cheated some but I tried to average my calories out every week to where they should be. I try to stay within 25-27 points which averages out to between 1,250-1,350 per day. Based on this information and the information I calculated online about my metabolic rate, I am probably getting a deficit of around 1,000 calories per day. This may not be 100% accurate since it's a generic online calculator. It estimated my BMR to be 2,401 & my RMR to be 2,316. If I keep this pace up during my 90 days, I should really start to see some amazing results.
It's motivation to keep plowing forward!!!! I'm going to make a vow to myself to not weigh again until I hit the 30 day mark, which will mean I can weigh in on January 31. It's something to look forward to for sure!!

Yeah....it's Day 10!!!
I'm feeling great today and excited to be on Day 10. This means that I'm a little over 10% through the program!! ;-)) I've got to keep the motivation going. It shouldn't be a problem because I can honestly say that I'm in my groove!!!
Yesterday I did Plyometrics and it was tough! I still love it even though it's the hardest workout. I just keep picturing myself getting in shape and imagining how I'll feel once I get there. I can't wait! Tonight I'll be doing Shoulders and Arms which in my opinion, will be considerably easier than yesterday. ;-))
We are leaving for the mountains on Friday. We're spending a long weekend with the family and skiing. I'll be on P90X every day that I'm there. Got to keep it up!!

Day 8
Yesterday we started Week 2! Whooo Hooo! I have to say that the Chest and Back workout is probably my least favorite workout, mainly because I struggle with the pull-ups. I dont think I've ever been able to do a single pull-up in my life. In 2005 I was in tip top shape and I could do 25 regular push-ups. I will get that back rather quickly but pull-ups may be a different story. If I could just do 1 or 2I would be THRILLED!!! So other than that struggle, I like that workout fine. It's hard but hey, no pain, no gain!
This evening I'll be doing Plyometrics for Day 9! I really love this workout, even though it's tough. I finish up feeling great and full of energy.
I have been doing AbRipper X every day that I'm suppose to and I find that it's getting easier every time. Just have to keep it up. I swear after just one week, I can tell a difference in my stomache. ;-)
Ok, that's all for now. My P90X system arrived today so now I have my own copies of all of the DVDs and books. I'm leaving for the mountains this weekend...going snow skiing...so I'll have everything I need to keep this up every day! I don't want to miss a beat. ;-)

Day 7 P90X
WAHOOOO!!!! I'm so excited!!! As of today I finished my first week of p90X. I really like this exercise program and I can see myself getting totally addicted. I have had SO much energy since starting P90X. I feel like I'm 25 again. ;-)
On Day 7 you have a choice to do either Stretch X or rest. I did both. I took a 3 hour nap today and when I woke up I did Stretch X. It was super relaxing and the stresses made me feel great. I know I'm going to sleep well tonight.
So tomorrow the entire routine starts over. I'm looking forward to this week. Weeks 1-3 are the same routine every week. Starting in week 4 the routine changes. At least I know what to expect for the next two weeks. ;-))
I am also doing well with my diet. I bought more protein shakes today and some protein bars. I've also been eating a lot of yogurt. It's funny, but I'm not even tempted to eat anything naughty. I know it's not worth it...that's why. ;-))
Until next time...

Day 5 P90X
I'm feeling great today but I've got to tell you, last night was a BEAR!! We did yoga on Day 4 and the first 45 minutes were brutal. My neck has been bothering more in the last few days. I am going to be really careful about straining it during exercise. I think also with yoga it's very difficult to have to constantly look at the tv to make sure you're in the right position with the proper form. Thankfully after 45 minutes of tough moves it started getting a little easier. By the end of the yoga session we were doing stretches that I was very familiar with and I finished up totally relaxed. I'm thinking that I'll grow to love the yoga session as time goes on. In my opinion it was the most difficult session I've encountered so far (at least the first 45 minutes were anyway).
Tonight we are working Legs and back and I have read some reviews that say it is TOUGH!! No problem. As Tony would say, "Do your best and forget the rest!". ;-)

Wednesday - -Day 4 of P90X
HAPPY HUMP DAY!!!
It's Wednesday and I'm feeling GREAT!!!! It's DAY 4 of P90X!!!!!! I'm still a little sore (ok, maybe more than just a little) but I am full of energy and zipping around like a wild woman. ;-)
Last night we completed our Day 3 workout which consisted of Shoulders, Arms and Ab Ripper X. In my opinion, it was, by far, the easiest workout we have done so far. If I was starting from scrach I would probably be hurting today. I used 10 lb. weights and that was perfect for now. I will need to move up soon though.
Really great news about last night....I did NOT have any problems with nausea or indigestion!! YEAH!!!!! It made my workout so much more enjoyable! I believe the key was 1) not eating after 3:30pm; 2)Loading up on water during the day but slacking off around 5pm; and 3) cutting down on the amount of water I drank while working out.
We started working out around 6:15 and it took us 1hour, 20 minutes to complete the circuit. I ate dinner around 8pm. I'm trying to avoid carbs at night and just stick with pure protein.
The one problem I did have was that I went to bed at 10:15 and was WIDE awake at 12:30! I was so energetic that I felt like I could go for a run. That was crazy! It could be because of the coffee I had yesterday SO today I limited myself to one cup this a.m. (instead of 2) and I won't have any more caffeine until tomorrow morning. Hopefully this will help me sleep better tonight.
Ok, so tonight's workout is YOGA!!!!!!!! Stay tuned for an update in the a.m. I have heard that it's no cakewalk!!
Cheers!

Started P90X on January 1, 2012
HELLO ALL!! Thanks for joining me as I start a new journey to health and fitness. This time I'm going extreme! One of my New Year's Resolutions this year is to get my body in the best shape possible. SO, I started P90X Classic on the 1st. Today is Day 3 and it's no joke, my legs, thighs and back are feeling it!!! I'm a very driven person and when I make up my mind to do something, I DO IT!!! So there will be no slacking off during the next 90 days. ;-)
I FEEL GREAT!!! We have worked out on the P90X system twice now and while I am sore, I am full of energy!!!!!
One issue I've had since starting is that indigestion and nausea have been rough. After doing some research online, I think I need to change up a few things:
First, I need to LOAD up on water during the day. I usually drinks 2-3 bottles a day but I need to start drinking earlier in the a.m. and load up all day then cut back on the water when I'm working out. Maybe keep it to a minimum of one bottle during the routine.
Secondly, I need to NOT eat within 3 hours of doing my workout. I thought I would die last night of indigestion!!! It was horrible but I kept going and made it through my entire workout. Afterwards I was nauseated and the indigestion was so bad I couldn't eat dinner. I ended up drinking water with a teaspoon of baking soda! YUK!!! Hey, it helped tremendously so it was worth it.
Thirdly, I need to workout AT LEAST 3 hours before going to bed. The first night I went to bed about 1 1/2 hours after finishing the routine and I couldn't sleep. It was a miserable night of tossing and turning but when I woke up the next morning, despite being sleep deprived, I was very energetic!
Fourth, be very patient. As they say on the video, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was your body. SO TRUE!! It will take time but the results will come. The internet is such a great resource for motivation, not to mention solutions to things like indigestion, nausea and so forth as related to working out. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone!
I am working out with my neighbors, Linh and Rico. We are committed to getting through this program and transforming our bodies. It's challenging in several ways, aside from the obvious challenges, we all have children. We won't let that stop us though. It's all about drive and determination.
My other source of motivation is my BFF who just finished her 90 day workout. She started the program in great shape and is very happy with the results she acheived. She has been telling me about her workouts for the last few months and how she is absolutely addicted to P90X. She got me inspired so that's how I got started. I've always been active and was in great shape when I was younger. I think around 2007 I really started slipping and put on an extra 25-30 lbs. I'm determined to get rid of it..and this is MY year!! ;-))
Ok, that's all for today!!!!! We have the shoulders and arms workout tonight and ab ripper. Tomorrow we have Yoga X. I hear it's really hard but I'm looking forward to it.
Until next time....
